How much does shipping cost? Domestic shipping in the US is a flat rate of $13.95 - no matter how much you order. Therefore, we recommend purchasing in bulk to maximize your value. The only exception is our Lactation Cookie Sample Pack, which costs $7.50 - including shipping - worldwide.
Do you ship overseas? Yes! Bessie's Best ships all over the world. Prices will vary depending on order size and location. Choose International Shipping at checkout to verify your rates.
Are your products safe to eat while pregnant? Yes, all of Bessie's products are safe to eat while pregnant.
Do your products contain fenugreek? No, none of Bessie's products contain fenugreek.
...but...umm...doesn't fenugreek help to boost your milk supply? Yes - with caveats. While fenugreek can be an effective galactagogue (an ingredient that assists with milk production), it often comes with a host of unpleasant side effects. These include abdominal discomfort (for mom and baby!), sweat/urine odors and nausea. In addition, it's also in the same family as peanuts with regards to allergies. We feel that there are far better ways to naturally increase your milk supply than using fenugreek.
Ok, well...If you don't use fenugreek, what active ingredients do you use to increase milk supply? It depends on the product. Brewer's Yeast, flax seed and oatmeal are the main galactagogues in our Lactation Cookies. Those same ingredients are also used in our seasonal Lactation Pumpkin Bread, in addition to pumpkin itself, which is also a galactagogue. Pretty much everything in our Lactation Granola is a galactagogue, including coconut, pumpkin seeds, raisins, almonds and apricots. All of these ingredients are natural, healthy and work to boost your milk supply without the negative side effects associated with fenugreek!
Will Blockbuster cookies help to boost my milk supply? No, Blockbusters will NOT assist with increasing milk production.
...then what will Blockbusters do for me? Two things - One, they'll make you smile because they're delicious :). Two, they'll assist with clearing and preventing clogged ducts, which block the flow of milk and interfere with normal lactation - painful for mommy and frustrating for baby. So, while Blockbusters will NOT cause a boost in production, they are intended to help restore or maintain your optimal milk flow. Try combining them with our other lactation products to #MakeMoreMilk and let the river flow!
What's the active ingredient in Blockbusters? Soy Lecithin is the main active ingredient in our Blockbuster cookies. It's been shown to decrease the viscosity (or thickness) of breast milk by increasing the percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids contained within.
Are your products dairy free, gluten free, nut free, vegan, etc.? Aside from Blockbusters, all of our products are fundamentally gluten-free; however, the oats are processed in a facility that once contained wheat. The Lactation Granola is vegan. Lactation Cookies, Granola/MTO Granola and Lactation Pumpkin Bread can all be made dairy-free or vegan. If you wish, we can substitute soy butter for peanut butter in our cookies, but you must order in quantities of six dozen (6, 12, 18, etc.) so that we're able to bake a full batch. Similarly, you can choose to remove the almonds from our Lactation Granola if ordered in quantities of six dozen; or, you could simply order MTO Lactation Granola and choose to remove the almonds. For any of these requests, simply enter them in the Special Instructions field when ordering.
What are the nutritional facts for your products? Please visit our product page to download nutrition labels in PDF format.
What is the shelf life of your products? Our Lactation Cookies and Lactation Pumpkin Bread typically last about three weeks, at which point they start to dry out a bit (Tip if that should happen - store them in a container with a piece of bread to help soften them up!) We are still running tests on our Blockbuster cookies, but we expect shelf life to be slightly lower due to the ingredients involved.
Will your products keep well if frozen? In our testing, the Lactation Cookies and Lactation Pumpkin Bread have been shown to freeze for at least six months and still taste wonderful. Therefore, we recommend ordering these in bulk so that you can save with our flat-shipping rates. Again, we are still testing Blockbusters but we do expect freezing to be a bit more difficult due to its ingredients.
What's the best way to freeze your products? Freezer bags, food storage containers or really anything that's airtight should work well. We recommend freezing the Lactation Pumpkin Bread whole to better hold in the moisture.
How much should I eat to best boost my milk supply? We recommend starting with three Lactation Cookies or slices of Lactation Pumpkin Bread for breakfast (slice the bread into eight equal pieces). Everyone's body responds differently, so it will take some time to see what your needs are - some moms need more, others less. If you need more, try adding an additional cookie/slice or two as an afternoon snack.
Taste aside, which product will help me produce the most milk? There's no one answer to this question - some moms respond better to one product vs. another, while others see equally great results from all of them. Objectively speaking, however, there are three galactagogues in our Lactation Cookies, four in our Lactation Pumpkin Bread, and potentially many more in our Lactation Granola, depending on how you order it.
How many Blockbuster cookies should I eat to help clear my clogged ducts? If your ducts are already clogged, we recommend starting with six cookies per day and adjusting from there as needed; for prevention, we recommend three per day. Once you've busted those blocked ducts and are feeling ready to cut back, make sure to do so slowly over time to reduce the risk of a relapse.
How long does it take to see results? Some moms see results within a day or two; for others, it takes a week of eating 2-5 cookies/slices etc. per day. You will need to experiment and allow some time to observe your results.
